So today was our 2nd Midwife visit! I had a lot of cramps today and couldn't sleep the night before because we watched a scary movie about aliens. We got there and barely had to wait! So the usual blood pressure and talk stuff and then she measured my fundus (28 cm). Said the baby is growing just fine! We heard his heartbeat in 2 different ways because she listened at 2 chambers of his heart. He was kicking a lot while she did this and when the phone rang, Peter came over and put his head on there and Sebastian kicked him in the ear! HAHA!
So then we asked all sorts of questions. I wanted to know about the chair that we've seen on TV for labor. She said that we have to remember to ask for it when labor begins because she doesn't automatically bring it. I told her that I'm sure pushing is easier when you are in a chair made for it kinda like a toilet and she said that before pushing that a lot of times she has you sit on the toilet to get the motions going. So the chair is no problem. I also wanted to know if they do the vitamin K injection for the baby and if they do the drops in the eyes. Well all pretty much the same except they have the baby drink the vitamin K instead. They put it in the bottle or whatnot. If it's a hard labor then they do the injection but if not, it's in the bottle. We also wanted to know about a baby doctor. If we need to get one to examine the baby and all afterwards. She said that she examines the baby and then later in the first day your regular DR comes to your house to check the baby out. After that every 4 weeks you go to a clinic where they have pediatricians there. Not at all like the US where you interview Drs. but oh well I suppose.
She said my cramps are ok as long as they don't come every 10 minutes or something.. As in regular intervals, which I already knew. We forgot to ask a couple other things but we'll ask next time. She did make a point of saying that I MUST eat every 2 hours. That is really hard to do I think. I mean normally I have breakfast and if I'm in school I snack at around 10am and have lunch at 12pm and then nothing really until Dinner and 1 or 2 snacks after. But on non school days I eat much much less. Probably because I sleep in later. By the time I wake up it's lunch time. Then I don't eat until Dinner and then it seems only 1 snack before bed. So I think I need to be more diligent about eating.
So next visit is in 3 weeks and after that it's every 2 weeks! Next visit they check my Iron level.. Now that kinda worries me because I have this GUT feeling I won't have been taking in enough Iron... I know myself well enough to know that I don't really eat much meat and the only source of Iron is probably my prenatal vitamins haha! We shall see I guess!!
